Centerville, GA — On a historic evening marked by unity, vision, and unwavering purpose, Brother J. Michael Evans—a 1982 initiate of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and a proud member of the Omega Gamma Gamma Chapter—was elected Mayor of Centerville, Georgia, securing a commanding 57% of the vote. This decisive win not only signals a new chapter for the city but also stands as a shining embodiment of Omega’s Four Cardinal Principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift in action.

A retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel and graduate of The Citadel, Brother Evans is no stranger to service. His nine-year tenure as a Centerville City Councilman and time as interim Mayor laid the foundation for a campaign built on trust, transparency, and transformative leadership. His election marks a continuation of a life-long commitment to public duty and principled stewardship.

More Than Political — It’s Fraternal

From his earliest days in Omega Psi Phi, Brother Evans has embodied the call impressed upon every man privileged to wear the shield: to be barons of business and industry, writers of laws and policies, and leaders in their communities. His campaign, rooted in compassion, strategy, and integrity, reflected the enduring legacy of Omega’s founding fathers—men who challenged Black men to lead boldly and serve selflessly.

Evans ran a campaign centered on listening and led by the needs of the people. His platform addressed real, tangible concerns:

• Strengthening ties to Robins Air Force Base
• Enhancing government transparency
• Advocating for affordable housing
• Improving community spaces for families

Every element of his vision was underscored not by ambition, but by responsibility—the very responsibility Omega Psi Phi instills in every brother.

• Manhood: Evans ran a campaign of unwavering character, dignity, and discipline.
• Scholarship: His platform reflected careful study, strategic foresight, and civic understanding.
• Perseverance: As a 28.5-year military veteran and lifelong servant-leader, Evans stayed the course, even in adversity.
• Uplift: His message inspired a city—and especially Black youth—with hope, excellence, and purpose.
